| Match Report: |
On a scorching day, County Hall won the toss and chose to bat, looking for a good start against fellow promotion hopefuls, but the openers curse struck yet again as Sharp, Bartlett and later Archer, were all dismissed by Shaktival and the inconsistent bounce of the Totteridge pitch.
The ship was steadied by the Barnaby brothers Gavin (57) and Matt (46) who played brilliant innings straight out of the textbook. That particular textbook, ‘The Big Book of Barnaby Batting’ is available on Ebay and contains only one word. A clue to what that might be: Matt Barnaby hit 4 sixes in one over, all to mid-wicket…
The usual good support from the middle order Jones (28), Marsh (25) and Melisi (31) accelerated the run rate, County Hall eventually bowled out for 228.
Totteridge’s reply didn’t get off to a great start as the top order fell to the accurate bowling of man of the match Dave Melisi. Chopra and Mathew offered greater resistance, and looked to be inching Totteridge towards the required total, but four wickets from captain Nick Marsh and his Tardis-style bowling – so slow it went back in time – swung the game back in County Hall’s favour.
Mike Jones took the final wicket in the penultimate over, the fourth LBW of the day – full credit to Totteridge for showing honesty that hasn’t always been the case in recent seasons. County Hall took home 30 points, winning by 45 runs.
