| Match Report: |
Flat. Road. Pancake. Three words that perfectly describe the wicket at newly promoted Bayford. Only 3 wickets fell during the game and one of those was a run out.
On a day that the bowlers may have thought they would get some assistance from the overcast conditions, County Hall II's were asked to field and spent 3 hours toiling away for little reward. To their credit, not one head went down and the intensity remained high throughout the session.
County Hall felt unlucky when a catch off Davis was not given when he was just settling in - he went on to score 132.
It was a mix-up between the batsmen that provided County Halls only breakthrough allowing James Williamson to pounce and fizz the ball in above the stumps for Chris Barnaby to remove the bails, easily running out Bayford skipper Morris (64) who until that point had looked very composed.
Bayford then seemed to lose all direction and verve as they contented themselves with just using up their allocation of overs, obviously feeling that they had enough runs in the bag.
They eventually declared on 230 for 1 off 50 overs - a score that the County Hall team thought was very gettable on such a flat wicket.
Elevated to opener Marsh fell in the second over for 2 from a ball that nipped away off the seam. He then sat back and watched as Nick Sharp (64) and Wayne Langton (133 n/o) set about constructing a 184 run partnership. A very negative field setting allowed Sharp and Langton to pick up 1's, 2's and 3's as well as the odd 4.
When Sharp was eventually bowled, County Hall still required 45 runs to win, but Langton and Dave Melisi (13 n/o) scored the runs in 5 overs. County Hall completing their innings with 3 overs to spare.
County Hall II's remain second in division 8.
