| Match Report: |
County Hall II's fought back to post a challenging score as Cockfosters III scraped a draw at the Leahoe.
Having lost the toss, County Hall were asked to bat first on a damp wicket in bitterly cold conditions. Cockfosters decision looking to be a good one as County Hall were reduced to 51 for 5 after 16 overs. Callan (5 for 35) doing the damage with his movement off the seam. County Hall were unfortunate as several wickets to fall came from flicks off the pads or body to unsettle the bails. Only Wayne Langton (23) broke in to double figures in the top 5.
It was once again down to Nick Marsh (29) and Dave Melisi (74) to rebuild the innings. Melisi's innings was one of patience, waiting to punish the bad ball, and after some dubious bowling changes punish every ball.
Ably assisted by the recognised bowlers Maslanka (15) and Brown (24) County Hall reached 210 all out from 51.1 overs.
Having posted a challenging total County Hall were confident of creating a win and it started brightly enough when Mike Jones (2 for 50) uprooted the leg stump of Brady.
However the County Hall fielders construed to lose the game as they proceeded to drop at least 8 catches, many of them will be the easiest they get this year. This allowed Rollo to reach 50 having been dropped at least 4 times before finally being bowled by Brown (2 for 31).
Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals (some of them actually catches), as Maslanka (2 for 20) helped to set up a thrilling last few overs, but Cockfosters held on for the draw as they finished on 185 for 9.
County Hall II sit in second place in Division 8 of the Saracens league.
