| Match Report: |
Another strong performance from CH saw them rise to second place in Division 3 with a four wicket victory over Stevenage IIs at Leahoe.
Stevenage won the toss and chose to bat first on a greenish looking wicket following heavy overnight rain. They lost opener Hann without scoring thanks to a good catch behind the wicket from Tom Barnaby. This set a trend for the remainder of the game as CH held onto some excellent catches.
The visitors were reduced to 29 for 3 before a stand between Zargar and Hayward brought Stevenage back into the game. Both were removed by sharp slip catches from Barty of Elmers bowling to leave them 5 down. Late hitting from Fernando took the score to 125 all out from 34.5 overs, Hibbert the pick of the bowlers, claiming four wickets.
CH had 65 overs available to chase down the modest total and despite the early loss of Langton proceeded to 34 for 1 without any undue alarms. However Nevill produced a tight spell of bowling and took the next two wickets in consecutive overs to leave the home side 38 for 3. Batsmen then got starts but were unable to produce the one meaningful partnership that would have closed the game out.
At 91 for 6 there was even the possibilty that Stevenage might be in a position to push for the win but then an unbroken partnership of 35 between Captain Graves and bowling all rounder Jones secured victory with 18 overs still remaining.
MOM Barty. Top scored and took 3 excellent slip catches. Needs to remember where his off stump is though.
