Match Report:
County Hall were involved in a thrilling game on saturday when all four results: win, loss draw or tie were still possible. With their last pair at the crease, Clarendon Chipperfield required three to win. A scrambled single meant the game was drawn with CH coming out slightly on top, picking up 19 points with CC collecting 12.

At the start of the game these teams occupied the top two spots in Division 3 so a close game was always likely. Chris Graves won the toss (yet again) for the visitors and decided to have first use of a very good looking batting surface. With 4 regular openers either absent or abstaining, CH opened with Adrian Devine and Simon Hibbert who batted confidently on a true surface which prompted Clarendon to introduce spin as early as the 9th over.

An opening stand of 129 in 34 overs laid a platform for a score which should have easily exceeded 250. However it was not until Adrian Devine completed a deliberate century that the attack was taken to the tiring Clarendon spinners. Only a late flurry of attacking shots from Andy Szemiako, including sixes from the last two deliveries of the innings, lifted County Hall's total to above 240 runs, which was viewed as at least 20 runs short given the conditions.

After tea Chris Graves used the new ball well, removing both openers with catches behind the wicket. The introduction of spin from Simon Hibbert and John Schlaepfer brought two more wickets bringing Gary Wise to the wicket to play an innings which very nearly won the game for the home side. With support from his captain Grout, and wicket keeper Paddon, Wise took Clarendon to 227 for 8 before being bowled for 88, Hibbert's fifth wicket of the match.

Clarendon's last pair took few risks and needing six from the last over from Hibbert, reduced that target to 3 from the last delivery. A single left honours even, but with the points taken, saw County Hall climb above their hosts by a single point.
