| Match Report: |
County Hall's 1st XI got the 2010 League season off to a successful start with a thumping win over London Colney, exacting revenge over the visitors after being defeated in the early part of the 2009 season.
Having won the toss, London Colney put County Hall in to bat on a wicket that was still damp after overnight rain. This immediately paid dividends when Cole bowled Richard Hale in the first over, but partnerships of 46 between Andy Bartlett and Adrian Devine, and 45 between Devine and John Schlaepfer steadied the ship somewhat.
All the County Hall batsmen made starts, but only Devine (59) and Schlaepfer (35) made scores of note and at 163 for 7, the home side were struggling to post a score of 200. However, a fine 8th wicket partnership between Simon Hibbert (20) and Jimmy Hassle (38) took County Hall to a competitive total of 224.
Colney's innings got off to a similar start to that of their hosts, with Mark Batchelor bowling Hurst in the first over. However, things went from bad to worse for London Colney as Batchelor and Chris Graves got far more life out of the pitch than the Colney bowlers. At 14 for 6, all Colney had to play for was pride and an attempt to try and make the score respectable, but County Hall's bowlers were ruthless and finally dismissed London Colney for a paltry 34 off just 18 overs.
