Graham Rowley

Graham Rowley joined County Hall Cricket Club in 1980 and spent 14 happy years at the Club. Tragically, Graham died suddenly in December 1994 at the tender at of 33. He was much loved by our Cricket Club and is sadly missed by all of us who knew him.

In the early eighties, County Hall Cricket Club was nowhere near as strong as it is now. As Club Secretary and Captain, Graham helped set the wheels in motion for County Hall C.C. to grow into the thriving association it is now.

He was affectionately known as The Juggler; his catching skills as a wicket-keeper were somewhat unique ! He could bat a bit too, though the term headless chicken was heard many a time when Graham was at the crease. And it wasnt just on the field that Graham excelled; he was certainly the life and soul in the bar after a game as well.

He had many friends among other Cricket Clubs in the Hertford area too, notably at Hertingfordbury C.C. whose members included work colleagues of Graham, and through the kind generosity of Mrs Gwen Rowley, County Hall Cricket Club and Hertingfordbury Cricket Club have played their annual fixture for The Graham Rowley Trophy. It is always a game played in the right spirit, something that Graham always aspired to.

Previous Winners

To mark the 10th anniversary of Grahams death, The Graham Rowley Cup will be presented to the County Hall player who has taken the most catches in the season (whether juggled or not).
